Boy Mom: arm yourself

two and a half years ago, i became a Boy Mom. having been a mom of a girl for three full, very pink years, this boy stuff was all new. and blue. i didn't know how i would take on this role, but i knew that raising my son would be completely different than raising my daughter. would being a Boy Mom overwhelm me? scare me? would i know what to do? would i mess up? would i say the wrong things? would i know how to parent this boy well enough for him to grow into a man of Christ?

the only thing i knew to do was pray. and read books. fold my hands for lots of prayer and get my hands on lots of resources.

last October, i met Brooke, founder of M.O.B. Society, an online community for moms of boys. Brooke is a "real" Boy Mom, raising two young sons. obviously, she is Boy Mom SuperWoman. she taught me to pray Ezekiel 36:26 over Bubba. she taught me the importance of telling my son that he is a mighty warrior for God. he is.

by joining M.O.B. Society, reading Brooke's motherhood journal, and surrounding myself with other Boy Moms, i have learned to wear my Boy Mom badge with pride, parent my son with confidence, and lean on the Lord daily for His guidance.

a gifted writer with a heart for ministering to mothers, Brooke put together an e-book designed to help moms in the pursuit of raising godly men. pages and pages of guidance especially for boy moms, straight from the Word of God. Bible stories and heartfelt prayers to encourage moms through the trials and triumphs of raising little Warriors for Christ. i love the prayers, specific and categorized for our needs. i love the candid mom-to-mom talk, "So pray, mommas. Pray for the hearts of your sons..." i love the brutal honesty. i love the desperation that drives her to her knees, "Prayer? The desperate cry of a mama whose life has taught her she has so little control." i love knowing i'm not the only one.

from the book: "There are so many books out there today on the topic of parenting boys that I can’t count  them.  Nor do I have time to read them all.  But even if I did, reading these books and putting the solid tools in them to work still doesn't come with guarantees. Knowing this, it becomes quite clear that there is only one thing we can do… Plead with God. Pray. “The fervent prayers of a righteous man avails much.” James 5:17. It’s our hope."

Warrior Prayers: Praying the Word for Boys in the Areas They Need it Most is a prayer guide for Boy Moms, a parenting resource with promises for those of us raising godly men. easy to read and easy to apply, Warrior Prayers is derived from the Ultimate Parent, the Author, our Father. God bless Brooke for stepping up to the plate as Boy Mom, and going to great lengths to encourage other Boy Moms with the Word.
