works for me: sleep in heavenly peace

Big Girl has never been a good sleeper. sleep isn't her strong suit. even as a baby, naptime was always iffy, short, sporatic. getting her to sleep 8 hours of sleep at night was no problem, except she did it in 2-hour spurts.

so it seems par for the course that now, at age 5 {and a half}, Big Girl is having sleep issues. big ones. for two months now we have been battling night terrors and sleepwalking.

as a Mother, seeing your baby in the middle of the night experiencing a night terror, or walking aimlessly with foggy, unfocused eyes is frightening.

we prayed. we researched. we've changed the bedtime routine. we've changed the bedroom atmosphere. we prayed.

when i asked my Twitter friends for advice i got a very helpful suggestion from Jessica Smith (@jesssmith). Jessica is a Texas Mama like me, she has 4 children, and is the wife of a Word of Life area missionary.

her suggestion? her link? is right here. and that is what worked.

Jessica suggested posting Philippians 4:8 over Big Girl's bed and praying it together before she went to sleep, encouraging her to think about these excellent, pure, and noble things.

we did.

we also gave her a lavender pillow spray, a new "spa" sleep mask, and turned on a CD of instrumental lullabies.

last night was the first night in a long time that we didn't find Big Girl in the middle of the night in a cold sweat screaming and shaking, or walking around the house in a zombie-like state. she slept. peacefully. in her bed. from 8pm until 7am.

she slept peacefully!

thank you, Jessica!

prayer works for me. scripture works for me. asking friends works for me. peaceful sleep works for me!
