one word: 2013

choosing one word to focus on for an entire year, it's like deciding on a theme song or a background color for my life. it's incredibly personal. it's to challenge, to inspire, or to guide. it's something to do, something i need, or something i want for my life. a word to hold dear, to explore, to be intentional about. it's meaning comes from soul-searching, goal-setting, and dream-decoding. it's a decision i make, a promise to keep, and yet it's mine to mold. it's to be taken seriously, yet is really very simple.

one word for an entire year. one goal, one desire, one resolution.

last year's word was wonderfully perfect for me, all 365 days: held. i needed it, clung to it, used it, prayed it daily. i wore that word out. if i had to pick one word for a lifetime, it would be held

but this year, i know. we are held.

God gave me a new word:

steadfast: adjective resolutely or dutifully firm and unwavering, to endure patiently
synonyms steady, firm, stable, constant, immovable, reliable, faithful, true to the end

steadfast. in all areas of my life, dutifully firm and unwavering.
in my prayer life
in my faith
in my home
in my marriage
in my parenting
in my homeschooling
in my serving
in my friendships
with my words
in my reading
in my giving
in my spirit
in my health
in my peace-making
in my hope
in my trusting

steadfast.

Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways.

He who is steadfast in righteousness will attain to life...

You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.

And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.
