the summer of us

we are making the most of our summer. i'm spending these long days soaking up my young children, reading my bible cover to cover, loosely participating in the summer of 7, planning the 2012 Mamas Write Conference, teaching kindergartners about Jesus at church, making plans for the Mama Chiks ministry, preparing for our next season of homeschooling, and praying about our move to Dallas.

our blaring bright summer fun list was taken down from the wall last month when we cleaned house for a showing. i put it back up, and then had to take it back down for another showing. again and again. the tape is losing it's stick and the posterboard is starting to look worn. so i haven't put it back up.

our summer without a "to do" list is just as much fun. we have had spontaneous trips to the water park, quiet afternoons with books and blanket forts, day trips to visit Grandma, bike rides just before rain, fun with friends until sunset, family movie nights, and baked cookies just because.

back in the spring, i prayed specifically for a fun-filled memorable summer, with lots of family time, time with friends, sunshine, and swimming. God has surely listened and answered my prayers.

no checklist, no boxes, no Pin boards...just us, being us, trusting God and making the most of every moment.

Oh, how sweet the light of day,
And how wonderful to live in the sunshine!
Even if you live a long time, don't take a single day for granted.
Take delight in each light-filled hour,
Remembering that there will also be many dark days
And that most of what comes your way is smoke.
