works for me: The Cold Thing

when either of my babies have a minor ouchie or a boo-boo, hugs and kisses are the remedy of choice. but sometimes, skinned knees and banged up elbows need extra TLC.

if a kiss doesn't make it better, a Band-Aid doesn't take away the pain, and my baby is still hurting, we get out The Cold Thing.

sounds like something from a Dr. Seuss story, right?

The Cold Thing is a homemade hot/cold pack. simply a flannel pillow filled with corn kernels intended to soothe aches and pains. it can be microwaved for use instead of a hot water bottle, but we keep ours in the freezer so it's more like a soft ice pack. there are other "varieties" of The Cold Thing- rice socks, and dried bean packs - very commonly found at craft fairs. if you can make your own Cold Thing, you're a Superhero in my eyes.

when BigGirl falls down and her knees turn pink, she cries for "The Cold Thing." we get it, let her hold it on her boo-boo, and a few minutes later she is miraculously healed and has a really cold knee. she is all better, we put The Cold Thing back in the freezer, and pray that we don't need it again for a long time.

someone made The Cold Thing for us a few years ago and it's been a beloved ouchie remedy ever since. The Cold Thing works for me!
