Ten on Tuesday: About Me

10 Things About Me
...that you wouldn't know by just looking at me.

1. I am one of 8 children in a blended family. That's right. 8. I have 4 sisters and 3 brothers, and I'm in place 5. We have been blended since I was 4, so the lines are blurred, sisters are sisters and brothers are brothers. I don't even bother with "step" or "half" designations anymore.

2. I am a homeschooling Mama. And yet, I'm still pretty hip! And you might mistake me for PTA President or carpool coordinator.

3. I know all the words to Ice Cube's "It Was A Good Day." No explaination needed.

4. I gave birth naturally. I am proud of this and I wish you did know this by looking at me. I toughed it out. Twice. By choice. And survived. The first time, I labored at home arriving at the hospital just in time to push. The second time, I had Pitocin-induced contractions for 184 hours (okay maybe it was only 8 hours) and no pain meds. Can I get a high-five?

5. I am afraid of water. Deep, dark water, and drowning, specifically.

6. I founded a nonprofit organization. Inspired by motherhood, I want to make the world a family-friendly place.

7. I don't let my kids watch TV. Not very much, anyway. Maybe 1 totally safe, previewed and approved, happy-ending, at least a little bit educational program every other day. Maybe. I do make exceptions for several rainy days in a row, sick children, and special occassions.

8. I have a retainer. You might know this if you're my dentist or if you're a close talker.

9. I have two tattoos. In what I thought was an inconspicuous spot on my body, the kids now have a nasty term for it that I refuse to site here. It also happens to be the least painful place to get a tattoo, in my humble opinion.

10. I pray for you. I read faces and body language, I pick up on bits of conversation, I notice needs, and I pray. I thank God for blessing you. I believe we crossed paths for a reason.
